I AM VANESSA JO UNDERWOOD
Hola family y amigos, my name is Vanessa Underwood. I photograph families and babies in the Amarillo area. Family means everything to me. I am a Daughter, a wife, a mother of two beautiful girls, a sister to five siblings, and last but not least, a Tia.
I have two daughters, a 6-year-old (Mariea), a 4-year-old (Sonya), two fur babies, an English bulldog, and a Black Lab. Here is where I would state that I am a coffee-loving mom who enjoys chasing her daughters around. But I'd be lying because I don't love coffee. I'm a tea-drinking type. I honestly don't enjoy chasing the girls. I will be vulnerable for a second and confess being a mother is hard! I love my girls and wouldn't trade them for the world, but motherhood is not my calling. My calling is to photograph you and your family.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to Audible, catching up on trashy reality television, and on a good day, 30 minutes of Yoga.
As a kid, my dream was to be a pop star. But, I guess you can say I've always been an artist. Once I realized I wouldn't be the next "Jenny from the Block," and being a pop star wouldn't be my reality, I started reflecting and researching what my next chapter would be. That is when I realized I've always had a passion for photography. So, shortly after, I decided to attend Amarillo College and become a Certified Photographer. Although this journey has been a ride, I continue to grow and learn. Pursuing my career as a professional photographer wouldn't be possible without the support of my husband and family and, of course, my dedication to the craft. I can't wait to meet and learn about you and your family.

I will wear a neutral-colored shirt and Comfortable bottoms on your session day. Read what NOT TO WEAR BLOG, then you’ll know why. I will look like a hot mess. Don’t be alarmed; I am a mama trying to make it to the session on time!

WHAT KIND OF PHOTOGRAPHER ARE YOU?
I am a passionate lifestyle family photographer. I am also extremely chill and laid back. I strive to capture raw and genuine emotions. If you're looking for stiff-posed images, I'm not the photographer for you. I will direct and guide you and your family for a seamless session. Don't let that scare you and think, “my kids are horrible with directions.” As I mentioned earlier, I want to capture raw emotions, so don't worry, it'll all work out in the end.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PHOTOGRAPHER?
I started my Professional Career as a Photographer in 2016.
ARE YOU GOING TO WEAR A MASK DURING OUR SESSION?
During outside sessions, I do not wear a mask, unless otherwise requested by the family. Before a session, I always wash my hands and sanitize the car before I start the session. For indoor sessions, I will not wear a mask unless requested by the family.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE SESSION?
This is an easy answer. Wear something that reflects who you are and wear something that makes go feel good. Don't overthink it. If you normally don't wear dresses, don't force yourself to wear a dress. Need more information about what to wear, check out this blog.
WHERE WILL MY SESSION BE HELD?
I offer studio, in-home sessions, and outdoor sessions. Studio sessions are held at my studio near downtown Amarillo. In the home, sessions are at your own home. I typically photograph families at a field-like location (park) or urban (downtown). Once you're booked, you'll receive an email, and we will discuss the best location for you and your family.
DO YOU OFFER STUDIO SESSIONS?
Yes, I do offer studio sessions. My studio is available for all types of sessions. My favorite to photograph is Maternity in Studio.
Where is your studio located?
The studio is near downtown Amarillo, Texas. The address is 1000 SW 7th AVE.
What are your Business hours?
Sessions are by appointment only. My office hours are Tuesday - Thursday from 9 AM - 2 PM and Saturday. 10 AM - 4:30 PM. Office hours are the prime time when I will answer emails.
What is a mini-session?
Mini’s are quick sessions that are typically 15 minutes or less. The gallery is smaller, ranging from 5-10 photos from your session.
Can I book a mini-session anytime throughout the year?
No, I set the time and location for the mini-session. I dedicate one day to minis and have time slots that work best for you and your family.
How often do you offer minis?
I offer mini-sessions once - twice a year, typically for holidays Ex., Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas.
WILL I GET MY DIGITAL GALLERY AFTER THE SESSION?
You will receive an email about 2-4 weeks after your session with a link to purchase a collection that works best for you. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE IMAGES FOR MY GALLERY?
As an artist, I am proud of my work. I love everything about photography, from prepping to photographing to editing. A few days after the session, I will pull up your photographs and choose the images that speak to me the most. If an image doesn't speak to me, most likely, it won't be in your gallery. Over the years, I've learned there is no such thing as “perfect.” It's the perfectly imperfect photos that give me the most joy. These are the images that I chose for your gallery.
WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW CAN I BUY PRINTED IMAGES?
Once your gallery is ready to view (about 2-4 weeks after your session) You will have a store in your gallery where you can purchase prints. If you’re not computer-savvy and would prefer me to order your prints we can make an appointment where you can visit the studio and I will submit the order for you.
DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE PRINTED IMAGES FROM YOU?
Not at the moment you do not have to purchase printed images. I offer digital image collections once you choose the collection that works best for you, you can download the images and print them at a printing lab of your choice or use the store in your gallery to purchase prints.
HOW MUCH DOES ALL THIS COST?
To book a session there is a Session fee that is $125. The Session fee doesn’t include digital or physical prints. My digital and print packages typically range from $350 - $625. Here is a link with more information.
DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA TO TRAVEL TO A HOME IN THE CANYON, TEXAS AREA?
No, I don’t charge extra to travel to Canyon, TX. I consider Amarillo and Canyon as the same area.
DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA TO TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF THE AMARILLO/CANYON AREA?
Yes, I set a base travel fee of $75 to travel to your home in the Texas Panhandle/ High Plains area.
WHAT IS A CELEBRATION OF LIFE SESSION?
