Pose Guide to Help Choose Your Family Outfit / Amarillo Family and Newborn Photographer

Hey Mama! I know you understand how essential family photos are. So you booked your session. If you are anything like me, my first thought is, what do I do with my hands? But, no worries. This blog will give you an idea of what is going through my mind. Please keep in mind that every session is unique, so your photos.

It is my goal to give you all as much information as possible. I want you to feel comfortable and confident on the day of your session. I hope writing this blog will also help you decide what to wear on the day of your session and give you an idea of what to expect.

Walking Away

  • The above photos are what I would call the waling away or walking to pose. This pose is usually the first pose. After introducing myself, I will direct you to walk to an area where we will take most pictures. While you and your family are walking to that spot, I will start photographing. So keep in mind when picking out an outfit, I will photograph you from behind.

Twirling

  • I will ask dad or your partner to twirl you. So wearing a dress that flows will photograph beautifully. You don't have to wear a dress, but this is something to keep in mind.

Sitting/Laying

  • In this pose, your partner will sit comfortably, then I will ask you to sit bum to bum with your partner. I will direct your littles to sit where they fill most comfortable. Then you will transition into laying down. You will rest your head on your partner's leg from there. Something to keep in mind when picking your dress is that it's long enough to cover your goodies when sitting and lying. I recommend dad wear bottoms that won't stain easily.

Headshot

  • Typically, I take a headshot of every child at the session. I wouldn’t consider these headshots to be “Formal” more artistic. Having a headshot at every session is essential to see their physical and personality growth throughout the years.

Details

  • I will snap details throughout the session. Don't be alarmed if you see me photographing your hands closely or at unusual angles. I find detail photos fun in Family Photos because when you look back at your session you will see how tiny your daughters hands were. At the time you couldn’t believe how much they have grown and now they’re even taller and stronger. So when I see a chance I will photograph, hands, rings, ears, small feet.

Please remember I don't guarantee poses at my sessions. Also, remember these aren't the only poses at your session. These are a handful that I feel will help prepare you for our session.
